NEWS AND UPDATES
Attention prospective members of the 2009-2010 Kilmer Symphonic Band. As a course for students with advanced musical skills, all rising members of the Symphonic Band are expected to continue their musical study during the summer months. This can be done through participating in the Vienna Band Camp and/or taking private lessons.
The Vienna Band Camp is by far the most musically enriching and economical ($180 for 4 weeks) resource available for continuing study through the summer. All Kilmer Band students are encouraged to participate. The camp runs from June 23 to July 16 and meets at Longfellow MS from 8:30 to 12:30 on weekdays. Students are grouped into one of four different levels of concert band and additionally receive two sessions each day with a sectional coach and specialist on their instrument. In past years, approximately 90% of the Symphonic Band has gone to Vienna Band Camp, the other members enrolling in private lessons to continue study.
Those students that participate in Vienna Band Camp are consistantly the most successful members of the Kilmer Band Program because of the further skills developed. Please contact Mr. Dodson if you have any questions regarding the camp: i.e. financial assistance, flexibility for absences, switching instruments, etc.
