The Kilmer Band program is excited to announce that the Symphonic Band has been selected as a featured performer at the 2010 Virginia Music Educators Association (VMEA) Conference in Norfolk, VA this November. This selection is the highest honor a band can receive at the state level and is based upon blind screening of performance tapes submitted by school bands across the state.

Congratulations to members of the 09-10 Symphonic Band for performing at such a high level and winning us this honor!

The Spring Band Concert originally scheduled for June 10 will now take place Tuesday, June 8 at Madison HS. The concert will start at 7:00, with students reporting for attendance and warm-up by 6:00. Further logistics will be distributed the week prior to the concert.

Congratulations to the members of Concert and Symphonic Bands for their outstanding performances at the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association 2010 Concert Festival. Both groups received ratings of "Superior," the highest rating awarded. Judges and audience members had many compliments and praises for the Kilmer performances. Congratulations!

Please note that Cadet Band, Concert Band, and percussionists from the techniques class assigned to those ensembles will be having 2 after school rehearsals upon return from the Thanksgiving Holiday. Cadet Band will rehearse with percussion after school on Mondays, November 30 and December 7. Concert Band will rehearse with percussion after school on Wednesdays, December 2 and 9. Students should sign-up for late bases for a ride home or have parents pick them up at 4:00.

This Friday in class a representative from Metropolitan Formal Wear will come to measure students for their Kilmer Band concert uniform. This uniform will be used for all performances by the band during this school year. Please do not buy these pieces individually from another vendor. We are asking that everybody buy this uniform from Metropolitan to ensure that all colors and styles match exactly. Pride in appearance is an important factor in performing well and we want to be sure that our uniform is in fact uniform! Students will be able to use this uniform

Reminder: Required Symphonic Band sectionals will be starting next week - Brass on Mondays until 3:50 and Woodwinds on Wednesdays 4:00. Students will be dismissed when the bell rings at the end of the after school period (coordinated with the arrival of late buses). Students may sign up for a late bus during lunch.
