Support Kilmer Band

One of the critical factors in keeping the Kilmer Band an exemplary organization that brings success to students year after year is the support received from parents, administration, and the community. There are many ways that you can participate in helping the Kilmer Band.

Support with Time and Talents
Parents are encouraged to become active in the logistical structure of the Kilmer Band. Volunteers are needed to chaperone spring trips, monitor students during concert warm-ups and performances, assist with the distribution of band uniform and fundraiser orders, and help with data tabulation for fundraisers and pre-trip planning. Requests for parent help will be sent throughout the year prior to specific events, but feel free to contact Mr. Dodson if you would like to offer your assistance.

Support Financially
As with most any activity, financial support has a strong influence on success. The Kilmer Band holds a student-driven fundraiser each year during late October to create our yearly budget. Funds from this event go toward maintaining an inventory of quality instruments and equipment, purchasing music, paying festival fees, hiring instrument specialists to work with students, and providing aid to students in need. You can support the Kilmer Band by helping to make the fundraiser a success each year. Additionally, if you would like to make a donation or gift, contact Mr. Dodson to learn how it can be used to benefit our students’ instruction and experience in band.

Support through Advocacy
Unfortunately, the arts do not benefit from data that can be easily quantified. Since there are no SOL examinations for band and the arts, these activities can often take a backseat to courses with results that can be charted and graphed. However, as any student or parent who has experienced the value of participation in the arts can testify, it is in these activities we learn best the lessons that will bring us success and joy throughout life.

Help the Kilmer Band celebrate the accomplishments of its students by attending performances. Be an enthusiastic supporter by communicating the band’s importance. Your advocacy makes it easy for Kilmer Middle School to continue its support of students’ education in the arts.

“The arts’ position in the school curriculum symbolizes to the young what adults believe is important.”
